The Science
Curcumin:
Turmeric is a spice derived from the Curcuma longa plant, a member of the ginger family, and has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries in Asia. Turmeric contains Curcumin which is a powerful antioxidant.*
NF-κB controls genes are linked to inflammation*. Studies have indicated that curcumin inhibits the transcription factor NF-κB, and regulates the activity of several enzymes and cytokines by inhibiting both COX-1 and COX-2.*
Curcumin has poor bioavailability, and requires high doses to achieve desired blood levels. Our supplement, curcumin BCM-95 contains a novel curcumin absorption system which has been developed to deliver up to seven times more pharmacologically bioactive curcumin to the blood compared with commercial curcumin products.*
Magnesium:
Magnesium is a vital mineral and a cofactor for hundreds of enzymes.* It helps regulate diverse reactions in the body, including energy production, nucleic acid and protein synthesis, ion transport, cell signaling, as well as structural functions*. Researchers have reported in GreenMedInfo that 3,751 magnesium binding sites on human proteins have been identified, indicating that its role in human health has been greatly underestimated.*
Magnesium has been found to play a role in the activation of nerve channels that are involved in synaptic plasticity, and is therefore critical for the physiological events that are paramount to the processes of learning and memory.* Magnesium threonate (a form of magnesium), has been incorporated in our product, as it has the unique ability to permeate the brain and enhance the receptors that are involved in this process.*
Vitamin C:
Vitamin C, known as ascorbic acid, is not produced by the human body and must therefore be obtained through your diet. Two major functions of vitamin C are as an antioxidant and as an enzyme cofactor, whereby it readily donates electrons to recipient molecules in an oxidation-reduction process (redox).* During normal metabolic processes and through exposure to toxins and pollutants, free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated. Small amounts of vitamin C can protect essential molecules in the body such as proteins, lipids (fats), carbohydrates and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from damage caused by these free radicals.*
Lycopene:
Lycopene, which belongs to the carotenoid family of plant pigment molecules, is mainly found in tomatoes. Carotenoids help protect plants from the sun’s energy and give vegetables and fruits their yellow, red, and orange colors. Carotenoids, and especially lycopene, are known to be powerful antioxidants.* Aging may be caused by damage to fats, proteins and DNA strands. By capturing reactive oxygen species, lycopene helps circumvent this damage.*
Zinc:
Zinc is an essential trace element required for overall physical and mental health. Various aspects of cellular metabolism are dependent on zinc, which has an effect on growth and development, the immune response, neurological function and reproduction.* Bone formation is also reliant on zinc and it strengthens the biochemical actions of Vitamin D in the body. Over 300 enzymes depend on zinc for their ability to catalyze vital chemical reactions. Zinc has a structural role in the body and is instrumental in the integrity of proteins and cell membranes. Biological membranes that experience a decrease in zinc levels, become more vulnerable to oxidative damage and diminishes their ability to function.*
Vitamin K:
Vitamin K is not only necessary for its blood clotting capability, but also to help build strong bones and support healthy arteries.*
Studies have shown that vitamin K2 works hand-in-hand with vitamin D. Whereas vitamin D helps build strong bones by encouraging the absorption of calcium, vitamin K2 directs the calcium to the skeletal frame, preventing it from being deposited in the organs and other soft tissue regions*
ReSpark™ contains the menaquinone-7 form of vitamin K2 which metabolizes more slowly in the liver, and provides a more consistent supply and slow release form of vitamin K to the body.*
Vitamin D:
Vitamin D controls the process by which the information contained within a gene becomes a useful product (known as gene expression). The expression of more than 1,000 genes in the body are controlled by Vitamin D, particularly in the immune system, endothelial cells which line the blood vessels, pancreatic beta cells, and brain neurons. In fact one of the essential roles Vitamin D plays in the body is calcium metabolism and absorption.*
B-complex vitamins:
B complex vitamins are important vitamins that act as coenzymes in various biochemical reactions in cells, and regulate many processes in the body such as cell metabolism. They assist in the production of various hormones in the adrenal gland, including cortisol, adrenaline, aldosterone, estrogen and testosterone, that help the body cope with stress.* A deficiency in B vitamins leads to low energy levels and increased fatigue.*
Vitamin B12 methylcobalamin:
Vitamin B12, together with folate, helps with the synthesis of DNA and red blood cells.* It is also involved in the production of the myelin sheath around the nerves, and the conduction of nerve impulses.* During the aging process, Vitamin B12 is known to be lacking, with the percentage of the population having suboptimal serum concentrations (less than 200pg/mL or 148pM) increasing from 23% in the 19-64 year age group to 62% above 65 years of age.*
Vitamin B1 – Thaimine:
Thiamine is a coenzyme used by the body to metabolize food by turning it into usable energy and to maintain proper heart and nerve function*. Thiamine deficiencies are somewhat rare since it is readily available in the food we eat. A deficiency results in Beriberi, symptoms of which include heart failure, muscle weakness, confusion and a burning sensation in the hands and feet.*
Vitamin B2 – Riboflavin:
Riboflavin is an antioxidant that is responsible for maintaining healthy blood cells, boosting energy levels, maintaining healthy metabolism and many other health benefits.* It is part of the B complex range and besides supplements, it is readily available in our diets today.
Vitamin B3 – Niacin:
Niacin has been indicated for supporting healthy cholesterol levels, maintaining overall heart health, assisting with blood sugar metabolism and supporting joint and brain health.* It is part of the vitamin B complex, together with other B vitamins including Vitamin B1 (thiamine), Vitamin B2 and others.
Vitamin B6 – Pyridoxine:
As part of the B complex vitamins, pyridoxine is used every day by the body as it plays a part in major functions including movement, memory, energy expenditure and blood flow.* It helps maintain a healthy nervous system, provides energy from food we eat, helps support healthy blood sugar levels and boosts your mood* – to name a few.
Methylselenocysteine:
Selenium is an essential cofactor of glutathione peroxidase. It is incorporated into proteins to make selenoproteins, which are important antioxidant enzymes. The antioxidant properties of selenoproteins help block cellular damage from free radicals.*
Marine AlgaeCal:
Marine AlgaeCal (Lithothamnion superpositum) is a unique strain of plant-based red algae that is found on the shores of South America. Traditional calcium supplements help maintain healthy bones, however human clinical studies show that AlgaeCal products actually increases bone density.*
Copper citrate:
Copper is an essential trace mineral found throughout your body. It has an important role in a number of functions, including the production of red blood cells, the regulation of heart rate and blood pressure, the absorption of iron, support for prostate health, the development and maintenance of bone, connective tissue and organs such as the brain and heart, as well as the activation of the immune system.*
Beta carotene:
An antioxidant is a substance that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules and protects the body from free radicals. Beta carotene is an antioxidant and is also a precursor to vitamin A. It helps maintains healthy skin and is important for eye health.*
Vitamin A acetate:
Retinol and derivatives of retinol play an essential role in metabolic functioning of the retina, the growth of and differentiation of epithelial tissue, the growth of bone, reproduction, and the immune response.* Vitamin A is essential for good health and longevity.*
