Lycopene:
Lycopene, which belongs to the carotenoid family of plant pigment molecules, is mainly found in tomatoes. Carotenoids help protect plants from the sun’s energy and give vegetables and fruits their yellow, red, and orange colors. Carotenoids, and especially lycopene, are known to be powerful antioxidants. Aging and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and neurological diseases, diabetes, certain cancers and osteoporosis, may be caused by damage to fats, proteins and DNA strands. By capturing reactive oxygen species, lycopene helps circumvent this damage.
