Citrus Bergamot Extract:
Citrus Bergamot is a small pear-shaped citrus fruit related to the lime family, and cultivated primarily in Italy. It contains the unique compounds Melitidine and Brutelidine that have been shown to increase HDL, while significantly reducing triglycerides, blood glucose levels and LDL cholesterol which is the “bad” cholesterol that puts you at risk for clogged arteries and heart attacks.
In a 30-day placebo-controlled clinical trial, researchers uncovered the power of bergamot polyphenolic extract (BPF) using 238 patients, all of whom had high cholesterol, and some of whom also had high blood sugar. At the end of the 30 days, most of the patients in the BPF group had substantially lower total cholesterol, up to 38%. Their LDL cholesterol drop was just as impressive, with an average 37% drop. According to the researchers, the largest changes were in the subgroup of patients identified as having Metabolic Syndrome. Those patients saw a significant dip in their triglyceride levels, up to a 49% drop and an average 22% drop in blood sugar levels.
